Mangochi Municipal Council has hailed the inter-religion diologue project being implemented by Centre for Social Concern (CfSC) in the district, saying it has promoted peaceful co-existence among people.
The council’s chief executive officer Ernest Kadzokoya said this on Wednesday in Mangochi during the validation of the project through radio programme by media houses.
He cited resolution of hijab dressing code among Muslim students in public Christian- supported schools and the intervention on pork controversy that brought conflicts between Muslims and Christians as some of the issues the project has helped to address.
“Through the training sessions on peace-building conducted by this organisation with different cadre of structures, peaceful co-existence has been achieved,” said Kadzokoya.
He said the project has promoted conflict prevention among people in the border areas of the district.
“As a council, we will continue working with this organisation and also the structures they have built to ensure that we sustain the gains,” he said.
CfSC project officer Charles Mkangala said the project is bearing fruits.
He said: “We came with this project to promote peace and unity among people in the district, especially Muslims and Christians
“This is to ensure that we build peace-conscious communities to help transform Mangochi.”
Senior Chief Chimwala, who was one of the participants on the radio programme, commended the project for uniting the communities to work together irrespective of their religion.
CfSC, a faith-based non-governmental organisation, is implementing the three-year project with funding from the Embassy of Ireland.
